Russell’s work starts with travel observation, life drawing, portraiture and the local landscape of Moors, Wolds and the Vale of Pickering. Acrylic portraits, narrative paintings, and semi-abstract landscapes also provide the basis for drypoint printmaking, where real people become characters from literature.

Joby Cottage Studio shares the courtyard garden of Russell’s home, providing compact space for painting and printmaking. All of the necessary materials, tools and equipment are on show, together with work-in-progress and first hand explanation of the processes and the finished work.
